Standard Pauper

Standard Pauper is an unofficial MTG Arena constructed format which can be encountered during special events. It uses the same rules as Standard format, but only common cards are allowed. Thus this format is suitable for beginners who can easily create decks with their wildcards. There's no way to play online Standard Pauper games and there's no ladder for this format. However, nothing stops you from playing Standard Pauper games with a friend by choosing "Standard" and restricting yourself to non-banned common cards.

Rules detailed here are specific to MTG Arena specific event. For official Pauper rules, see on MTG Wiki.

  • Your deck must be composed of at least 60 cards, and a maximum of 250 (MTG Arena limitation).
  • You must only use common cards. If a card exists in a set as a common on Arena, then this card is legal even if it's possible to find it in a higher rarity in another set.
  • Your deck must only contains cards from legal extensions in Standard format.
  • Alchemy cards are not allowed.
  • Sets are limited to the same sets than Standard.
  • There's no sideboard in MTG Arena Pauper events, but you can have a 15-card sideboard if you want to play BO3 Standard Pauper in direct play.

Banned cards

As of 04/12/2023, there's no banned card in Standard Pauper on MTG Arena.

I don't see "Monastery Swiftspear" in Standard Pauper ban list! Why?

"Monastery Swiftspear" is banned in MTG Pauper, but for now it only exists in its uncommon version in MTG Arena, so it's automatically banned.
